            Johann Pall Arnason, narozen r. 1940 na Islandu, studoval filozofii, historii a sociologii

            Frankfurtu. Učil sociologii v Heidelbergu a v Bielefeldu od r. 1972 do r. 1975, a na La Tr
            Melbourne od r. 1975 do r. 2003. Byl hostujícím profesorem na Ecole des Hautes Etudes en S
            v Paříži a na univerzitě v Lipsku; badatelské pobyty u Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, Sw

            for Advanced Studies, Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut (Essen), Lichtenberg- Kolleg (Gött
            Weber-Kolleg (Erfurt). Nyní je emeritním profesorem sociologie na La Trobe University a uč
            semestru na Fakultě humanitních studií. Jeho výzkumné zájmy se soustřeďují na sociální teo

            sociologii, se zvláštním důrazem na srovnávací civilizační analýzu.
