Civilization, Modernity, and Critique: Engaging Jóhann P. Árnason's Macro-Social Theory

Many of us remember Prof. Jóhann P. Árnason from the time when he was one of the lecturers at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University. Fifteen years ago, he co-founded the then new Master's degree programme Historical Sociology, and was also a supervisor of PhD students. In honour of this world-renowned scholar, who celebrated his 80th birthday in 2020, the publishing house Routledge released this year a collective book monograph Civilization, Modernity, and Critique: Engaging Jóhann P. Árnason's Macro-Social Theory, edited by L. Dunaj, J. Smith and K. Mertel. Many world-renowned social scientists, such as Axel Honneth, Saïd Amir Arjomand, Peter Wagner, and Wolfgang Knöbl, have contributed to this book. Jiří Šubrt contributed to the book on behalf of Czech sociology with the chapter "Long-term Developmental Processes as an Unintended Consequence of Human Action".

The book is available in harback or as an e-book.
