Compulsory Elective Courses

At the programme of Historical Sociology, the study obligations are divided into 3 domains that mirrors three parts of state final exams.

The first domain, the theoretical-historical, offers courses focusing on general theoretical concepts of historical sociology and civilization analysis, and moreover on the perspectives of historical sociology in relation to the problem of knowledge, culture, religion, nations, nationalism, economics, politics, democracy and quotidian life.

The second domain is composed of courses introducing the main accesses and problems of sociological and historical methodology. The interpretation of research methods and techniques is oriented both on quantitative and qualitative methodology.

The third domain is the specialization domain chosen by the student from the four blocks of compulsory elective courses:

(i) The Theory of Social Change and Modernization Processes;

(ii) The Historical Sociology of Culture and Quotidian;

(iii) The Historical Sociology of Politics and International Relations;

(iv) Long-term Developmental Processes in the Perspective of Historical Sociology (for students enrolled in 2023 and later).

The choice of one of these specializations is fixed by the choice of compulsory elective subjects. Hence, students do not choose their compulsory elective courses only by the criteria of the minimum number of ECTS credits they have to earn, which is common at other programmes, but with regard to the block of specialization, from which they will also pass one of the four parts of state final exam. In order to be able to attend the specialized part of the state exam, a student has to successfully pass these compulsory elective courses:
